Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was detained by Delhi Police during a protest against alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, triggering political reactions.
Opposition parties had marched towards the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi to protest the reported question paper leak. Near the venue, police carried Rahul away and detained him; the report said he was seen bleeding from the nose at the time.
What drew attention in Tamil Nadu was the absence of any public condemnation from DMK president M.K. Stalin or DMK MPs. The report noted that the DMK has typically been among the first to criticise the BJP-led Centre when action is taken against the Congress or Rahul.
The article linked the silence to shifting political equations after the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, including the Congress moving away from the DMK alliance and backing the T.Ve.K. government led by Chief Minister Vijay. It also said Congress has not officially clarified whether the DMK remains part of the INDIA alliance, while Stalin has stated the DMK would fight alone in Delhi for state interests.
Chief Minister Vijay, meanwhile, condemned Rahul’s detention. The report added that while Congress may seek cooperation with the DMK nationally to oppose the BJP, criticism has emerged that the DMK is acting independently in national politics amid resentment over the Congress aligning with T.Ve.K.
