A 10-day training camp for Tamil Nadu Congress district leaders began in Mamallapuram, near Chennai, as part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its organisation ahead of upcoming elections.

The camp is being held under the broader “Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan” initiative, and is linked to the party’s “Mission 2029” plan. Tamil Nadu Congress president Manickam Tagore is leading the programme, which was inaugurated by the party’s state in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir.

A total of 71 district leaders are participating. The report said Kanyakumari district is not represented as district leaders have not been appointed there due to internal factional issues.

The camp is hosted at a beach resort under the Tamil Nadu government’s tourism department, where 45 rooms have been rented. Participants were served non-vegetarian dishes including fish curry, chicken fry, anchovy fry, ghee rice and prawn thokku, while breakfast included idli, dosa, pongal and masala vada; snacks such as juice, samosa and fruit salad were also provided.

The day begins with Tamil Thai Vazhthu, Vande Mataram and the National Anthem, followed by daily seminars on 20 topics. Rahul Gandhi’s fitness trainer Arun and TN Congress sports wing chief Nisar are conducting fitness and yoga sessions. The programme also includes a village outreach component, with groups of four leaders staying overnight in villages in Chengalpattu district to interact with residents, share simple meals and compile grievances into a report to be submitted to Rahul Gandhi.
