New Delhi is witnessing heightened political tension over the alleged NEET question paper leak, with protests on the streets and repeated disruptions in Parliament. Support for the agitation has been growing from student groups and other sections.
Against this backdrop, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took an unusual step to address the public, particularly young protesters. Instead of a conventional televised address, he reportedly placed his mobile phone on a stand and spoke directly to the camera.
The video was later posted on his Instagram account after 11 pm. In it, the Prime Minister said the government would bring in a stringent law in connection with the NEET paper leak issue. The post drew massive attention, with reports claiming it was viewed by 300 crore people within 24 hours.
The next day, Modi released another similar selfie-style video, thanking young people, which also received large viewership. The Congress criticised the timing, saying such announcements during the monsoon session of Parliament should not be made late at night, while other parties also questioned the usefulness of the video approach.
