Chennai/Tiruchy: Minister Nirmal Kumar on Saturday questioned whether Udhayanidhi Stalin has the qualifications to lead the DMK, and publicly challenged the party to conduct a vote to decide between Udhayanidhi and Kanimozhi.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchy, Nirmal Kumar referred to youth protests taking place across India, noting that views differ on the NEET examination, with some calling for reforms and others demanding its removal. He alleged that the DMK was engaging in “unnecessary” activities in this context.
The minister also claimed he was unsure if Udhayanidhi was being wrongly advised, and criticised what he described as staged displays involving people wearing “Genuine DMK” T-shirts. He said Udhayanidhi should first understand what “genuine” means and focus on constructive work.
Nirmal Kumar further alleged that the DMK was creating confusion by entering the NEET protest held in Chennai. Reiterating his challenge, he asked whether the DMK was ready to hold a referendum on who should lead the party—Kanimozhi or Udhayanidhi—and said, “Let them conduct the vote and we will see.”
