Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan on Saturday asserted that the proposed Mekedatu dam cannot be built, stating that “not even a single brick” could be laid while Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay remains in office.
Speaking to reporters in Erode, Sengottaiyan said it was routine for Tamil Nadu representatives to travel to Karnataka in connection with the Cauvery issue. He cited earlier visits during the AIADMK government by O. Panneerselvam and C.V. Shanmugam.
On the Mekedatu project, the minister claimed there was “100% setback” and reiterated that construction would not be possible under the current Chief Minister. He described stopping the dam as the Chief Minister’s goal.
Sengottaiyan also said the government was studying areas facing drinking water scarcity and conducting work to identify locations with groundwater. He added that efforts were being taken to ensure adequate water for drinking needs and for livestock.
