A plumber working on renovation at an old luxury bungalow in Vienna, Austria, has stumbled upon a hidden cache of gold coins valued at around Rs 23 crore.
According to reports, the worker noticed a rope protruding from the cement floor in the basement. Instead of ignoring it, he dug further to trace its source.
The digging led to a rusted iron box buried beneath the floor. When opened, it reportedly contained about 30 kg of shiny gold coins.
The coins are said to date back to the period before World War II. Another worker had earlier seen the rope but dismissed it.
Under Austrian law, the value of such a treasure is typically shared equally between the person who finds it and the owner of the land, making the plumber an overnight millionaire.
