India’s Anahat Singh has created history by winning the World Junior Squash Championship title in Ontario, Canada. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated her, calling the achievement a landmark moment for Indian squash.
In the women’s final, Anahat beat Egypt’s Rukaya Salim in straight games, winning 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 to claim the crown for the first time.
With this victory, she becomes the first Indian to win the World Junior Squash Championship. The report noted that Tamil Nadu’s Joshna Chinappa had reached the final 21 years ago.
The win also ends Egypt’s long run of dominance in the event, with Egyptian players having won the title since 2011. Messages of praise and congratulations have poured in for Anahat following her triumph.
In a post on X, PM Modi said he was proud of Anahat for becoming the first Indian woman squash player to lift the World Junior title, adding that her success would help popularise squash further among young people.
