Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi is set to visit Tamil Nadu on August 1 to take part in the concluding programme of a Congress training camp for district presidents in Mamallapuram.
The 10-day camp, organised by the Tamil Nadu Congress from July 23 to August 1, is focused on preparing booth-level committee functionaries and imparting election strategy training ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to attend the final-day event and distribute certificates to the district leaders. A plan for him to spend a night in a village and interact with residents has also been discussed, though it has not been confirmed.
During the visit, Rahul Gandhi is also slated to meet Chief Minister Vijay in Chennai. The meeting is likely to be held either at the TVK headquarters in Panaiyur or at Vijay’s residence in Neelangarai.
All India Congress Committee general secretary K C Venugopal attended the camp on Sunday and addressed the district leaders. Speaking to reporters at Chennai airport, he confirmed Rahul Gandhi’s participation on August 1 and remarked that student protests had forced Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan into a position where resignation became inevitable, calling it a victory for students.
