The Madras High Court has adjourned the hearing on a petition that seeks an inquiry into alleged concealment of information in the nomination papers filed by DMK leader and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for the Kolathur Assembly constituency.
The petition was filed by Thirugnanasambandam, who contested on behalf of the National Makkal Sakthi Party. He alleged that Stalin did not disclose in his nomination that he was an administrator of a DMK trust, and that the trust had purchased property worth Rs 2.27 crore at Kadambadi in Chengalpattu district.
Based on these allegations, the petitioner requested the court to direct the Election Commission to examine the complaint, conduct an inquiry, and take action in accordance with law if there is prima facie material.
When the matter came up before a bench comprising Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan, counsel for Stalin submitted that there was no requirement to furnish trust-related particulars in the nomination.
The judges asked the petitioner’s counsel to show evidence of what information was allegedly suppressed. As the documents cited were in Tamil, the court granted time to file translated copies and posted the case to July 29.
