New Delhi: Senior advocate Kapil Sibal has announced a donation of Rs 1 crore to support the legal needs of members of the Karapanpoochchi Janata Party, who have been protesting over the alleged NEET question paper leak and facing cases.
The party recently withdrew its protest that had continued for 36 days, following the resignation of Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan from the BJP. However, activists involved in the agitation are reportedly being arrested in states including West Bengal and Bihar.
Party representatives alleged that the Union government had gone back on its assurances and met Sibal to discuss the situation. During the meeting, Sibal said the financial support would be provided specifically for their legal assistance.
He also appealed to lawyers across the country to come forward and contribute generously to help the party members deal with the legal challenges arising from the protests.
