New Delhi: After repeated disruptions in the Lok Sabha due to opposition protests, the House is expected to take up discussion on July 28 on an amended bill aimed at preventing malpractice in public and competitive examinations.
The deadlock began as opposition parties demanded the resignation of Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET question paper leak issue. Protests in Delhi and a march towards Parliament on July 20 led to a police lathi-charge after an alleged attack, further intensifying the confrontation.
Although Pradhan resigned a day earlier, opposition parties continued to protest, condemning the lathi-charge on students. As a result, proceedings were again adjourned on July 27.
Amid the uproar, the government introduced in the Lok Sabha an amendment to the Prevention of Election Fraud Bill, proposing stricter action against those involved in leaking question papers for competitive examinations. The Centre urged opposition parties to participate in a debate on the legislation.
Delhi sources said all-party leaders have agreed to hold the discussion on July 28, citing Speaker Om Birla’s initiative and constructive consultations as key to breaking the impasse.
