The Supreme Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to include a forensic auditor in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing allegations of irregularities in offerings and donations at the Ayodhya Ram temple.
The case stems from complaints that devotees’ donations and offerings were misused. The state government had earlier formed an SIT, which detained eight temple employees and seized temple funds as part of the investigation.
Several petitions were filed before the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into the alleged donation scam and an audit of the finances of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which manages the temple.
During the hearing, the state informed the court that a new four-member SIT headed by IG Kiran was constituted on July 25 and that the inquiry is underway. The bench stressed that the probe must be conducted with full transparency, ordered corrective steps, and asked for a detailed status report within two weeks before adjourning the matter.
