Students of the Government Higher Secondary School at Iduvampalayam in Tiruppur have turned years of hardship into a medical college dream, after performing well in the NEET exam. Coming from modest backgrounds, they spoke about overcoming poverty, health issues and discouraging remarks from society.
Josika said her ambition to become a doctor began in Class 5 and that her teachers provided the right guidance. She recalled how some people questioned the need for higher studies for girls, but her parents stood firm and supported her efforts.
Suchitharan said he balanced regular school lessons on weekdays with special NEET coaching on weekends. He stressed that NEET is manageable when students thoroughly study their school textbooks and promptly clear doubts with teachers.
Mauneesh said he became serious about studies only in Classes 11 and 12, after encouragement from a teacher and interaction with a senior who had cleared NEET. He said he studied from early morning till midnight and stayed away from social media to stay focused.
Pavithra and Mahalakshmi highlighted additional challenges—single-parent responsibilities, studying in Tamil medium, and health setbacks such as severe asthma. They said language is not a barrier, and that persistence, along with support from teachers, friends and parents, helped them move closer to their goal of becoming doctors.
