The Tamil Nadu government has decided to issue all required approvals within 15 days for companies investing more than Rs 200 crore in the state, as part of efforts to attract more industrial investment.
Although a single-window online portal exists to obtain clearances, investors have complained of delays stretching for months, including for approvals from departments such as the Pollution Control Board. The prolonged timelines have reportedly led to dissatisfaction and hesitation among potential investors.
With a change in administration, the government has also initiated measures aimed at curbing bribery in offices, including a complaint helpline number, according to the report.
To ensure the new 15-day timeline is implemented, a high-level committee comprising senior officials will be formed. The panel will track approvals, monitor whether companies that sign agreements proceed to start operations, and place updates before the Chief Minister once every three months.
