School Education Minister Rajmohan on Tuesday said Chief Minister Vijay would review a proposal to include chicken biryani in the meal scheme for government school students.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai after attending an event at Ethiraj College, the minister said he had placed several requests before the Chief Minister and also shared supporting data. He pointed to issues such as improving school uniforms and the current allocation of Rs 11.50 per child for meals.
Rajmohan argued that the breakfast menu should be made more nutritious and appealing, noting that food costs have risen and that students should get better variety than the existing options.
He also recalled how the state’s school meal programme has evolved over time, citing earlier changes such as the introduction of eggs and other improvements under successive administrations. In that context, he said he had suggested serving chicken biryani once a week, adding that the Chief Minister had agreed to consider the multi-department proposal.
