Chennai: Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Maria Wilson appeared before the Mediation and Reconciliation Centre located on the Madras High Court campus in connection with a case arising from a family property dispute.
According to the complaint, Wilson and his father Nestor are accused of breaking into the Puducherry residence of Wilson’s brother, Maria Kuloth, on August 8, 2022, abusing and assaulting the occupants with a stick, and issuing threats. Based on the brother’s complaint, police registered a case, which is pending before the First Criminal Court in Puducherry.
During the trial, the court had directed Wilson to appear in person to obtain a copy of the charge sheet, but he allegedly did not comply for a period. The court subsequently ordered that he must appear.
Wilson approached the Madras High Court seeking to quash the case and also requesting exemption from personal appearance. Considering it a family dispute, the High Court directed Wilson, his father and other family members to attend mediation at the court’s centre.
As per the direction, Wilson and others attended the mediation for the third time on Monday. After an hour-long discussion, no resolution was reached, and the centre has asked Wilson and his brother to appear again on August 12.
