New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday accused Pakistan of attempting to conceal grave human rights violations and repression in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) under the guise of holding elections.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is aware of reports claiming that elections were held in the occupied region. He reiterated that India’s position remains unchanged and well known.
According to the MEA, the entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh—including areas under Pakistan’s occupation—are integral and inalienable parts of India.
The spokesperson alleged that the exercise described as elections is a “cosmetic” attempt to camouflage Pakistan’s illegal occupation and to divert attention from serious rights abuses in the region.
He also pointed to ongoing protests in PoJK, attributing them to economic exploitation, denial of basic rights to the people, and administrative actions.
