The Union government on Wednesday introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill in the Rajya Sabha, aiming to crack down on question paper leaks and other malpractices in national-level competitive examinations.
The move follows the NEET paper leak episode. The proposed law provides for stringent punishment, including imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine of up to Rs 10 crore for those involved in leaking question papers and related offences.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh tabled the bill in the Upper House. He noted that the legislation had already been passed by the Lok Sabha after a lengthy discussion, despite disruptions.
Singh said the bill reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of students and youth. Debate on the bill in the Rajya Sabha is continuing.
