Meta has written to the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology outlining the security measures it says are in place to protect posts made by the Prime Minister and other high-profile accounts.
The communication comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a selfie-style video on Instagram on July 23 to connect with young people, in which he said the Centre would take strict action in the question paper leak case. The video was later shared on Facebook, but was suddenly removed from the platform.
Following the removal, the IT Ministry issued a summons to Meta’s global head of public policy, asking the executive to appear in person and explain why the Prime Minister’s video post was taken down.
According to a PTI report, Meta’s letter describes “stringent” safeguards for the Prime Minister’s posts and other key accounts, including additional monitoring and higher-level review. The report also said Meta representatives may meet government officials later this week or early next week regarding the matter.
