Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami is planning to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah to find a way out of the party’s continuing internal disputes and confusion, party sources said.
The infighting has intensified after the party’s Assembly election defeat. Former minister S P Velumani is said to be consolidating supporters as part of a dissatisfied camp, while former minister Shanmugam has reportedly been keeping his supporters away from the AIADMK.
Against this backdrop, Palaniswami has completed consultations with 85 district functionaries and has decided to convene the party’s executive committee in August.
The developments come after the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) allegedly drew six AIADMK MLAs, including former ministers, to its side by getting them to resign. Palaniswami is pursuing legal action against the resigned MLAs and is also in talks with leaders in Delhi regarding action against TVK.
Sources said Palaniswami had earlier planned to meet Shah on the 22nd, but the Delhi trip was dropped as Shah was expected to visit Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on the 24th. That visit was later cancelled amid a NEET-related student protest in Delhi and the ongoing Lok Sabha session. Palaniswami has now sought an appointment after the session, with a meeting likely in the second week of August.
