Government department review meetings in Chennai will be held at Kalaivanar Hall going forward, following plans to shift the Chief Minister’s Office to Namakkal Kavingar Maligai.
At present, the CM’s office functions from the first floor of the heritage Fort building inside the Secretariat. The government has decided to relocate it to the 10th floor of the nearby Namakkal Kavingar Maligai.
The 10th floor earlier housed a conference hall and a dining hall, and it had been used for meetings chaired by the Chief Minister with ministers and officials, conferences of collectors and police officers, all-party meetings and grievance-hearing sessions.
However, the conference and dining facilities have now been removed, and equipment such as chairs, tables, public address systems and digital screens is being taken out. As a result, review meetings will be conducted at Kalaivanar Hall on Walajah Road, Chepauk.
With the Tamil Nadu government’s Budget scheduled to be presented on August 5, officials are also planning to hold the final Budget-related consultation meeting there under the Chief Minister’s chairmanship.
