New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has approved a road development package worth Rs 2,481.93 crore to connect 134 villages along the India–China border that currently lack road access.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said the clearance covers 111 projects under the Vibrant Villages Programme, aimed at providing all-weather road connectivity in the border belt.
He also outlined progress under the programme, stating that 528 villages across the country have been connected with 4G mobile services, 625 villages have been provided piped drinking water, and arrangements have been made for electricity through power infrastructure for 621 villages.
Under the same initiative, approvals have been granted for 140 solar power projects and seven micro-hydel projects. Separately, the Ministry of Power has cleared 43 projects worth Rs 238.30 crore to strengthen power distribution infrastructure, while 40 mobile medical units have been sanctioned for Arunachal Pradesh and 146 projects approved for school infrastructure.
