Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay on Wednesday assured companies that the Tamil Nadu government will provide full cooperation to ease new investments and ensure their operations succeed.
At an event in Nandanam, Chennai, memorandums of understanding were signed with several overseas organisations planning projects in the state. Swiss firm “Sub” and Germany-based Nordex have proposed setting up research and development centres in Tamil Nadu for the first time.
The projects are expected to generate jobs, with Sub projected to create employment for about 220 people and Nordex for around 1,000. The University of Western Australia, described as one of Australia’s leading research-focused universities, will establish a centre at Velachery in Chennai with an investment of Rs 125 crore—said to be the first international university centre to come up in Tamil Nadu.
The university centre is expected to create more than 200 direct and indirect jobs. South Korean auto components maker Mottinglink will set up a manufacturing unit at the Pillaiyapakkam industrial park in Kancheepuram district with an investment of Rs 300 crore, which is expected to generate about 1,500 jobs.
In his address, the Chief Minister said these investments would help meet the expectations of Tamil Nadu’s youth and strengthen the state’s position as a global hub for manufacturing. He reiterated that the government would continue to support new investors at every stage to ensure successful implementation.
