New Delhi: The Union government has informed Parliament that 16 Indians, including 10 sailors, have died amid the escalating US-Iran conflict in West Asia.
Replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said the fatalities were reported after the conflict involving Iran, the US and Israel intensified earlier this year. The deaths were recorded across several countries in the region.
According to the statement, the deceased included one person in Saudi Arabia, two in Kuwait, eight in Oman, one in Iraq and four in the United Arab Emirates. The government also said 75 Indians were injured — 32 in the UAE, 24 in Oman, four in Qatar, 13 in Kuwait, one in Saudi Arabia and one in Israel.
The minister noted that 12 Indians died in an accident at Qatar’s Ras Laffan gas facility, adding that the incident was not linked to the war. Indian missions are coordinating with local authorities to support families, facilitate the early repatriation of mortal remains, and assist injured persons receiving treatment in local hospitals.
Since the conflict began in February 2026, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has arranged travel for 2,557 Indian nationals to return home via Armenia and Azerbaijan. The government said around 7,000 Indians — including students, workers, sailors and fishermen — are currently staying in Iran.
