A six-member special committee has been formed by the Registration Department to examine documents linked to the alleged land registration scam involving Palani temple property.
According to the complaint, land worth about Rs 100 crore belonging to the Thandapani Swamy Mutt on Park Road at Palani foothills was registered in the names of private individuals for around Rs 2 crore on July 6, allegedly using forged documents and in violation of a court order. The temple lands inspector, Muruganandam, filed a complaint with the CB-CID police on July 15.
Following this, a case was registered under five sections against sub-registrar Justin Manikandan, a trust administrator and others. CB-CID police arrested four people, including the trust administrator, and the Dindigul magistrate has remanded them in judicial custody until August 12.
Officials said the newly formed committee will conduct a special audit of all land documents registered by Justin Manikandan from the date he assumed charge as sub-registrar. The team has been directed to submit its report within three days.
