Chennai saw a reduction in the price of the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder on August 1, with the rate cut by Rs 200 to Rs 2,906. The price revision offers some relief to hotels and other commercial users as the rate has now fallen below Rs 3,000.
Public sector oil marketing companies—Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum—sell LPG cylinders for households in 14.2-kg units and for commercial use in 19-kg units. These companies typically revise LPG prices on the first day of every month, in line with international crude oil trends.
The report notes that fuel prices have been rising in several countries amid war-related tensions in West Asia. Against this backdrop, the latest cut follows a reduction last month as well, when the commercial cylinder price had dropped by Rs 177 to Rs 3,106.
Meanwhile, there is no change in the domestic LPG cylinder price this month. In Tamil Nadu, the 14.2-kg household cylinder continues to be sold at Rs 957.50, the same rate that remained unchanged through July after an increase in June.
