India lands two medals in Glasgow javelin final
The men’s javelin throw final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow produced a strong showing for India, with Neeraj Chopra winning silver and young thrower Yash Veer Singh taking bronze. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage secured the gold medal.
The final, held at the Scotstoun Stadium, featured a tight contest involving Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, Chopra, Yash Veer Singh and the in-form Pathirage. The competition remained intense through the rounds as athletes chased the top mark.
Pathirage took control early and held on, landing an 89.75m throw on his second attempt. No other finalist was able to surpass that distance, allowing the Sri Lankan athlete to clinch the title.
Chopra registered 85.83m—his best performance of the season—to finish second. Yash Veer Singh delivered the surprise of the night by producing a personal best 85.41m on his sixth and final attempt, moving into the medals and pushing Anderson Peters out of the top three.
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the defending champion, had a disappointing outing. His best of 77.41m across the first three attempts left him outside the top eight, ending his campaign early.
