New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said he wants to forgive the students who allegedly spoke abusively about him and his mother during a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. He argued that counselling and guidance would be better than filing cases and dragging young people to court.
The protest was held last month at Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan, who was then the Union Education Minister, over the alleged leak of the NEET undergraduate medical entrance exam question paper.
Following the protest, a complaint was filed with the Noida police alleging that a 25-year-old woman raised abusive slogans targeting the Prime Minister and his mother. The inquiry was later transferred to the Parliament Street police station in Delhi.
In a video message posted on social media, Modi said the entire world had seen what happened at Jantar Mantar and described the participants as students lacking proper guidance. He said mistakes are common in youth and that the same age also offers an opportunity to correct them.
He added that punishment or court action is not the right solution and called on society to bring those who have strayed back onto the right path.
