India adds two boxing golds in Glasgow

India celebrated a golden day at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as boxers Preeti Pawar and Jasmine won back-to-back gold medals, boosting the country’s tally.

In the women’s 54 kg final, Preeti Pawar faced Canada’s Scarlett Savanna. After a challenging start, Preeti regrouped and took control, leading the first round with five points.

She maintained the momentum in the second round with accurate punches that unsettled her opponent, collecting another five points to seal the bout with a 10-point advantage. The win was reported as India’s first gold in boxing at the event.

Soon after, Jasmine secured India’s second boxing medal by defeating Ireland’s Michaela Walsh in the women’s 57 kg final to claim gold.

In other results, Tamil Nadu athletes contributed in triple jump, with Praveen Chithravel winning silver and Selva Prabhu taking bronze. India’s overall haul stood at 7 gold, 13 silver and 7 bronze medals (27 total), moving the country to sixth place in the medal table.
