New law notified after presidential assent
President Droupadi Murmu has granted assent to the amendment bill aimed at preventing malpractices in public examinations, the Union Law Ministry announced through a Gazette notification.
The bill was recently passed by the Lok Sabha and later cleared by the Rajya Sabha, completing the parliamentary process before being sent for presidential approval.
Under the amended provisions, those involved in question paper leaks and related exam fraud can face imprisonment of up to 10 years and fines of up to Rs 10 crore. The bill also provides for confiscation of assets belonging to convicted persons.
To ensure quicker disposal of such cases, the legislation includes a provision to set up fast-track courts in every state for speedy trials of the accused.
The Law Ministry said the President’s assent has now been formally notified, making the amended law effective as per the official publication.
