Tamil Nadu government has instructed all department secretaries and heads of departments to ensure that petitions received from the public are not kept pending for more than 30 days. The directive also asks officials to provide periodic updates to the respective ministers on key departmental matters.

According to a senior official, the instructions followed a recent review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Sai Kumar with department secretaries, where multiple administrative measures were discussed. Departments have been told to address every petition through a proper grievance-redress process.

As part of monitoring, department heads have been asked to review the status of petitions every week and ensure time-bound disposal. In line with earlier guidance, they must also conduct monthly field inspections in districts and submit inspection reports without delay.

The government further directed that monitoring officers should carry out monthly field work and send their reports to the Chief Secretary through the Public Department. All government orders must be uploaded promptly on the websites of the concerned departments.

In addition, government orders related to announcements in the Governor’s address should be issued immediately. Each department head must nominate a liaison officer to coordinate with the Information Technology Department for the “Know Your Government” initiative. Officials were also asked to make advance preparations to face possible drought conditions linked to the impact of “El Nino”, and to continue efforts to obtain central government grants and pending dues.
