KANYAKUMARI: We The Leaders organisation president Annamalai on Saturday stressed that the group should not revolve around any single “face” and must function with everyone working on equal footing.
Speaking after launching a cleanliness drive at the Kanyakumari beach, he said the effort should not be a one-day activity and called for the beach to be cleaned every week. He added that the focus should be on the organisation’s work being recognised, rather than individuals being highlighted.
Annamalai said being called “leader” and prioritising photographs would signal that the purpose had been lost. He reiterated that there should be no hierarchy of seniors and juniors during such activities, and that all members should participate equally.
Acknowledging that new movements often face initial issues, he said challenges are common during the first year as an organisation matures and must be overcome. He noted that some members had political backgrounds while others had joined without any political leaning.
He also pointed to the scale of plastic waste in India, citing 26,000 tonnes, and urged participants to work without expectations, keeping the aim of cleaning and protecting nature in mind for the future.
