India’s development assistance to Sri Lanka has crossed Rs 71,250 crore, according to a statement shared by the Indian High Commission in Colombo.
The support is being extended under India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy, aimed at backing development work in the neighbouring country and strengthening bilateral ties.
A review meeting on ongoing development projects was held in Colombo with Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Anil Jayantha Fernando in attendance.
In its social media post, the High Commission said the assistance is focused on the welfare of people across Sri Lanka. It added that the total includes Rs 8,075 crore provided as direct grants.
The funding has been channelled to key sectors such as housing, health, education, railways and energy, the post said.
