As the southwest monsoon strengthens, Kerala and Karnataka have been receiving heavy rainfall, increasing runoff across the Western Ghats.
Officials reported a sharp rise in inflow to the Kabini reservoir due to intense rain in Kerala’s Wayanad region and in Karnataka’s Cauvery catchment areas.
With water levels and inflows climbing, water has been released from the Kabini dam. The release is feeding into the Cauvery system.
As a result, Cauvery waters are flowing towards Tamil Nadu, driven by the increased discharge from upstream reservoirs.
The development comes amid continued monsoon activity across the region, with catchment rainfall remaining the key factor influencing inflows and releases.
