Chennai: Minister Nirmal Kumar on Saturday alleged that the DMK is acting to prevent Chief Minister Vijay from gaining public goodwill, particularly in the context of the Cauvery water dispute.
In an interview, the minister claimed Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar shares a close relationship with what he described as the “DMK family” beyond party lines. He further alleged that Shivakumar’s public positions reflect what the DMK leadership wants, rather than the Congress high command.
Nirmal Kumar said CM Vijay had attempted to pursue an amicable solution to the Cauvery issue, but the DMK was creating hurdles so that the Chief Minister would not receive credit. He also alleged that while his side was preparing to file a case, the DMK rushed to initiate litigation, warning that multiple cases from the same state could create confusion.
The minister accused the DMK and late leader M. Karunanidhi of contributing to setbacks on the Cauvery issue over the past decades, and claimed the party is continuing the same approach now. He said a case would be filed in the Supreme Court on Sunday, as per the Chief Minister’s instructions, to protect Tamil Nadu’s rights.
He further alleged that the DMK, along with Shivakumar, is attempting to obstruct the Tamil Nadu government and is engaging in “low-quality politics.”
