Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday advised young people to stay away from drug addiction, saying it can derail their dreams and weaken the nation’s progress.
He launched the ‘Drug-Free India’ awareness campaign through video conference. Modi said achieving the goal of a developed India requires youth to be physically and mentally fit.
As part of the initiative, awareness programmes will be held at 10,000 locations across the country over 100 weeks. He called on society to commit to building a drug-free India.
Modi also urged people not to treat those addicted to drugs as outcasts, but to help them reform. “Say no to drugs and yes to the nation’s development,” he said, adding that staying away from drugs is the core aim of the campaign.
He noted that the movement began last year in Kashi and has since grown into a nationwide drive, with over 125 spiritual organisations joining to work for citizens’ welfare and a drug-free society.
