Event in Chennai
Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman on Saturday addressed party workers at an event in Pallavaram, Chennai, organised to welcome people joining the party from other political outfits.
Sharp attack on rivals
In his speech, Seeman criticised what he called the public’s inability to distinguish between an actor and a political leader, and took aim at rival political forces. He also questioned how social issues like caste could be addressed when, he alleged, electoral contests were fought on caste and religious lines in certain constituencies.
Claims on governance and spending
Seeman accused the government of relying on publicity and “reels” rather than governance, and alleged that public money was being wasted on banners at bus stands despite earlier promises. He also claimed that power supply was limited to six hours a day while electricity bills remained high.
Fishermen deaths, corruption and schemes
He referred to the killing of fishermen and asked whether affected families had been given government jobs. He also raised questions on corruption, asking why officials who demand bribes are not dismissed, and criticised the handling of the Jal Jeevan scheme and river-water issues.
Waiting for bypoll
Concluding his remarks, Seeman said he was waiting to see when the by-election would be held, using strong language to underline his eagerness for the poll announcement.
