The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu, citing a weak low-level trough over the coastal areas.
According to the department, heavy rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds may occur on August 2 in the Nilgiris, the hilly areas of Coimbatore district, and Theni.
The RMC said light to moderate rain is likely at a few places over other Western Ghats districts and at isolated places over north coastal Tamil Nadu. Light rain may occur at isolated places over the rest of the State.
For August 3, the department has forecast heavy rain in six districts: Nilgiris, Coimbatore (hilly areas), Theni, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai.
The weather office advised that the forecast is based on prevailing atmospheric conditions linked to the weak trough over the coastal belt.
