Tamil Nadu government has appealed to devotees planning to travel to Sabarimala to reconsider their trip, citing a heightened risk of landslides in the Pamba region amid continuing heavy rain in Kerala.
Kerala has been hit by unusually intense rainfall, triggering flooding and landslides in several areas. Idukki and Kottayam districts have reported multiple incidents, while Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Malappuram have also been severely affected.
Authorities said eight deaths have been reported so far due to the rain-related incidents, and rescue operations have been intensified in landslide-hit locations.
The heavy rain has caused a strong surge in the Pamba river. The Travancore Devaswom Board has urged devotees to avoid travel, and Tamil Nadu has echoed the advisory, asking pilgrims from the state to postpone their spiritual journey until the weather risk subsides.
Officials also noted that Pathanamthitta district, which includes Sabarimala, is experiencing flooding. Devotees have been requested to resume travel only after conditions return to normal.
