Thoothukudi: Annamalai, head of the ‘We The Leaders’ organisation, on Sunday pledged to clean a 175-km stretch of coastline from Kanyakumari to Thoothukudi within the next 365 days.
He took part in a beach clean-up drive organised by the group at Therespuram beach in Thoothukudi. Addressing volunteers after the activity, he said the effort would be carried out in a way that people could say there is no other coastline like it in India.
Annamalai said the initiative has begun as a small step in one place under the message of doing good deeds together. He added that the organisation’s aim is to earn the affection of the people of Tamil Nadu through actions and ensure that only good reaches the public.
Referring to the rain during the event, he said it was a natural blessing after completing a good deed and described it as Varuna Bhagavan’s grace for the clean-up work. He also said political issues would be discussed at the conference to be held in Thoothukudi.
