Counting for the Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar began at 8 am on Monday, with Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor taking the lead as results trickled in.
The bypoll was held on July 30 after the seat fell vacant following BJP leader Nitin Nabin’s election to the Rajya Sabha. The contest featured BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha, RJD’s Rekha Gupta and Prashant Kishor for Jan Suraaj.
After 25 rounds of counting, Kishor was leading by 14,953 votes over the BJP candidate, according to the latest trends reported.
Bankipur has long been considered a BJP stronghold, held by Nitin Nabin since 2010 and earlier by his father, Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha. The current lead is notable as Jan Suraaj did not win any seat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
In other bypoll updates, Congress candidate Kanshyam Singh was leading in Madhya Pradesh’s Tadiya seat by 7,544 votes after 14 rounds, a seat previously held by Congress. In Gujarat’s Manjalpur bypoll, BJP candidate Satish Patel won by a margin of 30,000 votes following the death of MLA Yogesh Patel.
