India’s campaign at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow concluded with the team finishing fourth on the medals table, winning 39 medals in total. The haul included 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze.
August 1 turned out to be a standout day for India, with athletes collecting 16 medals, including seven gold. Boxing led the surge, as Indian boxers secured seven gold medals and three silver medals.
On the final day, expectations of more medals did not materialise. Indian competitors featured in track cycling and judo, but missed out on podium finishes across events.
In track cycling, India’s Harshveer and Dinesh were unable to medal in the men’s 40 km points race. In judo, Ishroop Narang (women’s 78 kg), Avtar Singh (men’s 100 kg) and Yash Gangasu (men’s +100 kg) fell short of medal positions.
India also missed out in the track cycling 1000m time trial finals, with Ronaldo Singh failing to finish on the podium and Lisha Das placing sixth in the women’s event. Australia, England and Canada took the top three spots, and the closing ceremony is scheduled around 1.30 am with cultural performances. The 2030 Commonwealth Games are set to be held in India.
