A sudden ammonia gas leak at a private factory near Athur in Salem district left six workers affected on Saturday, officials said. The incident occurred at a unit operating in Sadasivapuram.
The workers who were on duty at the time were rescued and shifted to a hospital for treatment. Their condition was not detailed in the report.
Fire and rescue personnel were informed about the leak and rushed to the spot. Teams are engaged in efforts to bring the gas leak under control.
The incident comes amid a recent rise in reported gas leaks at industrial units in Tamil Nadu. On June 21, an ammonia leak at a seafood export factory in Kannigaiper, Tiruvallur district, led to 18 worker deaths.
On July 25, a minor ammonia leak was reported at a beer manufacturing unit in Aranvayal, Tiruvallur, where two employees suffered vomiting and dizziness and were admitted to hospital.
