A fresh controversy has erupted after human waste and a warning note were found inside the drinking water tank of Thangammappatti Government High School near Vadamadurai in Dindigul district.
The school has 213 students, including 113 girls. A compound wall is currently being built on the campus, and some residents are said to be opposing the work, fearing it could block access routes in the area. Some supporters linked to the Marxist Communist party are also reported to be backing the opposition.
On Monday afternoon, after students and staff noticed that the drinking water appeared contaminated, the overhead tank was inspected. Officials found fecal matter along with a piece of paper carrying warning messages directed at the school.
Following a complaint from the school administration, Superintendent of Police Jeyakumar, Vedasandur Tahsildar Rajendran and police personnel visited the campus and questioned the headmistress Sathyaprabha, teachers and students. Water samples have been sent for laboratory analysis, and further investigation is under way.
