Twenty-five US states have jointly filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in the US Court of International Trade over a new round of tariffs imposed on 59 countries, including India.
According to the report, the tariffs were announced last month in connection with allegations related to the use of forced labour in goods production. The states argue that the administration has been imposing higher duties on multiple countries since President Donald Trump took office.
In their petition, the states contend that the government is misusing Section 301 of the trade law in a manner that violates a Supreme Court ruling. They have asked the court to immediately halt and cancel the tariff action.
The states have also sought a refund of duties already collected under the measure. The plaintiffs include Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
