Chennai will soon have an integrated court complex to bring multiple courts under one roof, Law Minister Nirmal Kumar said on Monday. The move is aimed at reducing difficulties faced by lawyers as courts are currently spread across different locations in the city.
Speaking at a continuing legal lecture programme organised by the Madras High Court Advocates Association, the minister said the proposed complex would house more than 160 courts. He added that the Chief Minister has approved the plan.
The minister also said steps would be taken to fill vacant posts in courts across the state to ensure cases are handled fairly and transparently.
On the appointment of government advocates, he said selections have been made without party considerations and based on merit and eligibility. He added that the government’s measures would become evident over the next few years and that lawyers’ demands would be met in phases.
