Chennai: Minister Rajmohan has said the Victory Kazhagam government’s budget has delivered a “real” increase in funding for the School Education Department.
In his statement, he referred to the 2025–26 DMK budget allocation of Rs 46,767 crore for school education, and said that only Rs 42,351 crore had been spent up to the period before the interim budget.
He alleged that the 2026–27 interim budget—despite not announcing new schemes—projected higher figures by overestimating salary slabs and other expenditures, and announced Rs 48,534 crore for school education. According to him, this was Rs 6,003 crore higher than the actual spending in 2025–26, without valid reasons.
Rajmohan said the Victory Kazhagam government corrected these calculations by reducing what he termed “unwarranted” increases, and has now provided an additional Rs 2,176 crore over the amount spent under the 2025–26 DMK budget. He added that the Finance Secretary has given a clear explanation on the matter.
He said the Rs 44,527 crore allocated by the current government would be utilised efficiently under the Chief Minister’s guidance so that benefits reach students, teachers and the school education administration.
