Former Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan has said India made Pakistan wait for several hours after it sought a ceasefire during the military action dubbed “Operation Sindoor”. He made the remarks while speaking in New Delhi.
According to Chauhan, the operation followed an attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam valley last April, in which 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists. India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7 as a response.
He said the fighting continued for three days, ending on May 10. India initially struck terror infrastructure in Pakistan, and after Pakistan’s retaliation, Indian forces targeted military bases, causing heavy damage to key facilities.
Chauhan claimed several Pakistani bases, including Noor Khan in Rawalpindi, Rahim Yar Khan and Bholari, had not returned to normal functioning. He also said multiple radar sites were destroyed without crossing the border, while Pakistan attempted similar strikes.
He stated that Pakistan’s military contacted India’s Director General of Military Operations via the hotline at 9:30 am on May 10 to request a ceasefire. Chauhan said India wanted the outcome to be decisive and continued planned strikes until noon before agreeing to end the hostilities.
