Kerala continues to face intense rainfall as the southwest monsoon has strengthened again over the past week. Officials said the death toll linked to the rain has risen to 27 in the last four days, while four people remain missing.
A red alert was issued for Alappuzha and Kottayam districts as heavy showers persisted. As a precaution, schools and colleges were closed in 10 districts including Thrissur, Idukki, Wayanad, Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Kottayam.
Relief operations have expanded across the state, with 18,434 people accommodated in 418 camps. Rain continued in several districts such as Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Kannur.
Authorities have also flagged heightened landslide risk in Wayanad, where heavy rain has been ongoing for weeks. District Collector Meghasree urged tourists and residents to remain cautious and avoid visiting hill areas at night.
Night travel restrictions have been imposed on ghat roads on the Kozhikode–Wayanad and Kannur–Wayanad routes, officials said.
