Budget announcement for Tiruppur
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Mariyappan Wilson presented the 2026-27 state Budget, drawing strong reactions from Tiruppur’s knitwear industry. Industry bodies said the announcements have renewed confidence, especially after long-standing demands highlighted through the media.
₹10 crore for a Textile Technology Centre
According to the South India Hosiery Manufacturers Association (SIHMA), a detailed project report was prepared and submitted following a request from the District Industries Centre. Based on this, the government has allocated a special fund of ₹10 crore to establish the “Tiruppur Textile Technology Centre”.
Focus on synthetic fibre, green production and R&D
Industry representatives said the centre is expected to support synthetic fibre-based manufacturing, technical textiles, new product development and research-oriented initiatives. They also pointed to the potential for promoting eco-friendly technologies and “green” garment production once the facility becomes operational.
Wider budget support for textiles and MSMEs
Stakeholders welcomed allocations of ₹1,678 crore for handlooms, textiles and khadi, and ₹2,142 crore for micro, small and medium enterprises, saying these could aid technology upgrades, expansion, jobs and productivity. Associations also noted the ₹60 crore allocation for the Tamil Nadu Institute of Design and called for subsidies to help small printing units purchase new machinery for continuous technology upgradation.
